A family mission trip

The Whalen family is going back to Kenya!

The whole crew (Travis, Natalie, Parker, and Remi) is headed back to continue our church's partnership with Missions of Hope International. We will be back at the Ndovoini school, and we need your help to get there!

Why we go

We are going to love like Jesus!

In June 2027, our family will lead a team from Lakeside Christian Church setting out to serve alongside Missions of Hope International in Nairobi, Kenya. We'll be partnering with the Ndovoini School, where our focus is simple: building meaningful relationships with students, teachers, families, and the surrounding community.

Throughout our time there, we'll encourage and support the local staff who are in these classrooms every single day, invest in the lives of children through activities and conversations, and come alongside the local church community in ways that strengthen the ministry already taking place.

Our goal is to serve with humility, learn from the people we meet, and share the love of Christ through genuine relationships.

Meet the family

Every gift makes a difference!

We are each setting out to raise $3,000, which covers the entirety of our trip. All giving is handled through Managed Missions (our official trip platform) and all donations are tax-deductible. Choose a Whalen to send below:

Travis with students in a Ndovoini classroom

Travis The Dad

Apart from getting a team of Americans all the way to Kenya in one piece, Travis's primary focus is preaching and leadership development. He's excited to reconnect with MOHI staff and leaders.

Natalie with a student at Ndovoini

Natalie The Mom

Travis may be the voice, but Natalie is the logistical backbone. She does all the travel planning and keeps everything organized. Once we are on the ground, you will find her holding little ones and finding unique ways to care for and encourage the teachers.

Parker The Son

You have never met someone who sleeps more easily on an airplane than Parker. That's a good thing because once we are in Kenya, he is locked in. Parker can be found on the sports fields leading games and constantly surrounded by a pack of boys who won't let him leave!

Remi with students on the school field

Remi The Daughter

She sings, she dances, and she is seldom far from all the action. Remi is a relational force on our team, and she can't wait to reconnect with the students of Ndovoini. Whether it's taking polaroid pictures or sharing her candy, she is very popular around the school!
